**Tarija, Bolivia** – Former Bolivian president Evo Morales has refused to appear before prosecutors in Tarija, where he was summoned to answer allegations of human trafficking. Morales’ lawyer, Nelson Cox, cited unfavorable conditions as the reason for his client’s absence.
The Bolivian Justice Minister, César Siles, responded by warning that a warrant for Morales’ arrest could be issued if he continues to avoid the summons. “We hope he fulfills his duty,” Siles stated.
Morales, who has been vocal about his belief that the charges against him are politically motivated, took to social media to denounce the case as an attempt to undermine the Bolivian popular movement.
“The objective is to decapitate the Bolivian popular movement. It’s all a product of the government’s desperation, as they have no answers to the crisis and no electoral prospects,” Morales wrote on X.
CNN has attempted to contact Morales for comment, but has not yet received a response.
