Fri Oct 11 10:04:40 UTC 2024: ## Tesla Unveils its First Cybercab: A Driverless Future is Here
**Hyderabad:** Elon Musk’s Tesla made a groundbreaking announcement on Friday, unveiling its first Cybercab, a driverless electric taxi with an estimated cost of under $30,000. The Cybercab is expected to cost approximately $0.20 per mile to operate, significantly cheaper than traditional urban taxis.
During a “Robotaxi” event, the tech billionaire showcased a prototype of the company’s first fully autonomous vehicle, dubbed “We, Robot” in the US, alongside a lineup of future vehicles, including an electric van.
The Cybercab, a purpose-built autonomous vehicle, lacks a steering wheel or pedals. Its doors open upwards like butterfly wings, revealing a compact cabin designed for two passengers. The vehicle, resembling the Cybertruck, features inductive charging, described by Musk as wireless charging, instead of a plug-in charger.
Musk emphasized the safety advantages of autonomous vehicles, claiming they are 10-20 times safer than traditional cars. The company also showcased a new “Robovan,” a transport vehicle adaptable for mass transit or cargo hauling. “The future is autonomous,” Musk declared.
Tesla aims to launch fully autonomous driving services in Texas and California next year, with Cybercab production slated to begin in 2026. The company is also developing the Optimus robot, priced between $20,000-$30,000, capable of performing various tasks.
Musk highlighted the robot’s significance, stating, “It will save many lives and prevent injuries.” He concluded by urging attendees at the Warner Bros. Studio event to consider the amount of time spent in cars and the potential for reclaiming that time for activities like reading, watching movies, or work.
