Thu Oct 10 18:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Haaland Defends Norwegian Fans, Rejects Criticism of National Team Commitment
**OSLO, NORWAY -** Erling Haaland has defended Norwegian fans, dismissing criticism of the atmosphere at Ullevaal Stadion. Ahead of their match against Slovenia, the Manchester City striker expressed frustration with the focus on the crowd.
“I feel like there’s a ‘wanting more’ vibe,” Haaland said at a press conference. “First, we complain that not enough people are coming, and then when the stadium is full, we complain about the atmosphere. It’s just wrong to bring that up. We should be incredibly happy that we manage to fill the stadium.”
Haaland will lead the team onto the field as captain for the first time in Martin Ødegaard’s absence. He insists he will approach the role with his usual style: “Just like I am when I’m not captain,” he said. “I don’t think I should try to be someone else or change too much. The most important thing is to be myself, and that’s what I’m going to do.”
When asked about his tendency to avoid speaking to the press, Haaland joked, “We’ll see. If anyone has any interesting questions, I’ll gladly stop.”
While Ødegaard is out injured, he will remain with the squad as captain. Haaland acknowledged the absence of the Real Madrid star, saying, “He’s an amazing player and a fantastic person. Of course, it’s going to be different. We’re going to miss him, but we’ll just have to make the most of it.”
Haaland, who has been vocal about the demanding club fixture schedule, was asked what it would take for him to decline international duty. “Some of you have tried to make it seem like I don’t like playing for the national team, but I think you can put that away now. You see how much I enjoy playing for the national team. I love playing for Norway,” he affirmed.
