**Kottayam, October 10, 2024:** The Kerala government’s decision to declare October 11th as a public holiday in connection with the Dussehra celebrations has been welcomed by NSS General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair.
“The shift of the main Dussehra puja from October 11th to October 10th in the evening was necessary due to the Ashtami day falling partly on October 10th,” Nair explained. “The puja is concluded with the ‘puja eduthal’ (taking down of the puja) ceremony on Vijayadashami, which falls on the morning after the main puja. This year, with the puja taking place on the 10th, the puja eduthal will be held on October 13th, a Sunday,” he added.
The NSS, a prominent social organization in Kerala, supports the government’s decision to grant a holiday, ensuring that people can participate in the Dussehra celebrations without any work constraints.
