**Chennai, October 11, 2023:** Rajinikanth’s much anticipated “Vettaiyan” has opened to a strong box office performance, raking in an estimated Rs. 70 crores worldwide on its opening day.

Despite mixed reviews, the film, directed by T.J. Gnanavel, saw particularly strong numbers in Tamil Nadu, where it collected approximately Rs. 22 crores. The film also enjoyed a successful opening in Malaysia, Singapore, and the United States.

However, “Vettaiyan” falls short of the opening day collection of Vijay’s “The Goat,” which collected an astounding Rs. 126.3 crores worldwide on its release last month. While “Vettaiyan” holds the second position in terms of opening day collections, it is considered a strong opening for the film, particularly given the mixed reception.

Critics praised the film’s fresh take on Rajinikanth’s usual character and the strong chemistry between Rajinikanth and Bhagat Basil.

With a two-day weekend ahead, “Vettaiyan” is expected to see its collection double over the next few days.
