A serious train accident occurred near Kavarapettai, near Tiruvallur, this evening, involving the Mysore-Darbhanga Express and a goods train. According to initial reports, the Mysore-Darbhanga Express collided with a stationary goods train near the Kavarapettai railway station.

Rescue teams have been deployed to the accident site. Two coaches of the passenger train have caught fire, causing panic among the passengers. There are also reports of other coaches derailing.

The Mysore-Darbhanga Express, train number 12578, departed from Mysore at 10:30 am today, just one minute behind schedule. The train was scheduled to reach Darbhanga in Bihar on its third day of travel, after passing through Bengaluru, Katpadi, Vijayawada, Guntur, Prayagraj, and Patna. The train reached Perambur railway station in Tamil Nadu at 7:39 pm and departed from there at 7:44 pm towards Guntur. The accident occurred while the train was passing through Kavarapettai between Perambur and Guntur, around 10:15 pm.

Reports indicate that two coaches of the passenger train caught fire, and the extent of casualties and injuries is yet to be confirmed.
