Thu Oct 10 18:42:14 UTC 2024: ## Ola Electric Faces Legal Action Over Customer Complaints: Show Cause Notice Issued

**New Delhi:** The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued a show-cause notice to Ola Electric for alleged violation of consumer rights, following a deluge of complaints against the electric scooter manufacturer. The notice, issued on October 3rd, cites numerous complaints concerning poor service, misleading advertisements, unfair trade practices, and breaches of consumer rights.

Ola Electric has been facing heavy criticism for its service woes, which have even sparked a social media feud between comedian Kunal Kamra and Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal. The CCPA’s action stems from a surge in consumer grievances logged with the National Consumer Helpline, managed by the Department of Consumer Affairs. Between September 1, 2023, and August 30, 2024, the helpline received a staggering 10,644 complaints related to Ola e-scooters.

These complaints highlight serious issues including production defects, sale of second-hand scooters, lack of refunds for cancelled bookings, persistent problems after servicing, overcharging, billing errors, and battery-related issues.

The CCPA is currently investigating the complaints, particularly those concerning poor service. Nidhi Khare, Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs, emphasized the need for Ola Electric to address these concerns promptly.

Following the notice, Ola Electric’s shares dipped by approximately 9 percent, settling at Rs. 90.26. The company has not yet commented on the issue.
