Thu Oct 10 18:28:51 UTC 2024: ## Fiji Launches “Bin it or Bag it” Campaign to Combat Litter and Promote Sustainable Tourism

**Nadi, Fiji** – Tourism Fiji has unveiled a new campaign aimed at promoting responsible waste disposal and fostering a litter-free environment in the island nation. Dubbed “Bin it or Bag it,” the initiative seeks to raise awareness among both locals and tourists about the importance of sustainable tourism practices.

The campaign, a product of the 2023 Fiji Tourism Convention, reflects a growing commitment to environmental sustainability within the tourism sector. Major players including the Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel, The Holiday Inn, Rosie Holidays, and Ahura Resorts have joined forces with Tourism Fiji to implement this initiative.

“Bin it or Bag it” encourages individuals to dispose of waste responsibly, urging them to utilize available bins or, if none are nearby, to hold onto their waste in a bag until proper disposal is possible. This simple yet effective approach aims to preserve Fiji’s pristine landscapes while fostering a broader community movement dedicated to environmental responsibility.

The campaign features a catchy jingle and vibrant Fijian-themed illustrations, brought to life by local talent including musician Kuki, designer Studio Lily Kate, and creative direction from Havas. A key character named ‘Kasikasi’ is featured in the artwork, embodying the message of responsible waste disposal.

To further reinforce the message, reusable bags emblazoned with the campaign’s slogan are being distributed across various locations in Fiji.

Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “This campaign embodies our commitment to sustainable tourism practices and highlights the collective responsibility we share in safeguarding Fiji’s environment.” Hill encourages all Fijians and visitors to embrace the “Bin it or Bag it” ethos.

The “Bin it or Bag it” campaign will be widely disseminated through billboards, newspapers, radio broadcasts, and digital channels. Tourism Fiji has partnered with the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, as well as the Ministry for Environment and Climate Change, to ensure the campaign aligns with the nation’s broader sustainability objectives.

Tourism Fiji’s Chief Marketing Officer, Srishti Narayan, emphasized the importance of collective action, saying, “We believe when community, industry, and Government come together they are a powerful driver for positive change.” Narayan expressed appreciation for the numerous partners who have joined the campaign and encouraged everyone to participate in the movement for a cleaner, greener Fiji.
