Thu Oct 10 18:05:39 UTC 2024: ## Delhi’s “Sheesh Mahal” Sealed: Political Row Erupts over Bungalow’s Transfer
**New Delhi:** A political storm has erupted in Delhi over the transfer of the former Chief Minister’s residence, known as “Sheesh Mahal,” to newly appointed Chief Minister Atishi. The Public Works Department (PWD) on Wednesday sealed the bungalow, alleging that Atishi illegally occupied it after Arvind Kejriwal vacated the premises.
The controversy began when Kejriwal vacated the 6, Flagstaff Road bungalow after resigning as Chief Minister. While the keys were supposed to be handed over to the PWD, they were instead given directly to Atishi, who moved in with her belongings on Monday.
The Delhi LG’s office reportedly had all of Atishi’s belongings removed from the bungalow, leading to accusations of illegal occupation by the BJP. Delhi Assembly LoP Vijender Gupta claimed the move was illegal and questioned why the bungalow wasn’t handed over to the PWD according to protocol.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva alleged that the bungalow was still in Kejriwal’s possession and the handover to Atishi was unconstitutional. He hinted at secret information being hidden in the bungalow, further fueling the controversy.
AAP leaders refuted the allegations, claiming the bungalow was properly vacated by Kejriwal and that the PWD was delaying the allotment to Atishi due to BJP pressure. AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh presented documents to prove the bungalow’s proper handover.
The debate intensified as Gupta questioned why the keys were given to Atishi instead of the PWD, highlighting that she was already allotted a bungalow on Mathura Road. He accused officials of protecting the illegal occupation of the Flagstaff Road bungalow.
The situation remains volatile, with both parties presenting contradicting claims. The outcome of the political showdown over the bungalow and its secrets remains to be seen.
