Thu Oct 10 17:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Natalie Nakase Named Head Coach of New WNBA Franchise, Golden State Valkyries
**San Francisco, CA** – The Golden State Valkyries, the newest expansion team in the WNBA, have announced Natalie Nakase as their first head coach. Nakase, a veteran assistant coach with experience in both the NBA and WNBA, becomes the first head coach in the Valkyries’ history.
Nakase spent five seasons as an assistant coach with the LA Clippers before moving to the Las Vegas Aces in 2022. Known for her player-centric approach, Nakase emphasized the importance of building strong relationships with players, supporting them through both wins and losses.
“I’m a big believer in leaders who have a big heart and who care about players,” Nakase said in a video statement. “I think when you have that, players will just run through a wall for you. I’m going to be a truth teller, I’m going to be a pusher.”
The Golden State Valkyries, owned by the Golden State Warriors ownership group, will make their debut in the 2025 WNBA season. They will play their home games at the Chase Center in San Francisco and are headquartered in Oakland. The team’s name and logo were unveiled earlier this month.
“How my dad taught me was to be really hard, but at the same time, be really supportive,” Nakase added. “The main thing that I want is just to always have full confidence in my players and I want them to always have confidence within themselves.”
Nakase’s appointment marks a significant step for the Valkyries as they prepare for their inaugural season. Her experience and commitment to player development promise an exciting future for the new WNBA franchise.
