Wed Oct 09 01:05:34 UTC 2024: ## Vinesh Phogat Wins Haryana Assembly Election in Julana, Defeating BJP Candidate
**Julana, Haryana:** Former wrestler and Congress candidate Vinesh Phogat has won the Julana Assembly seat in Haryana, defeating her closest rival, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Yogesh Kumar, by over 6,000 votes. The election results were declared earlier today.
Phogat secured 65,080 votes, while Kumar received 59,065 votes. The election saw a clash of the titans, as another wrestler, Kavita Rani (Kavita Dalal) from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was in the fray. However, Rani, a former WWE wrestler, managed to garner only 1,280 votes, resulting in the forfeiture of her deposit.
According to election rules, a candidate’s deposit is forfeited if they fail to secure at least 1/6th of the total votes cast. In Julana, the total votes polled were 1,38,871, meaning each candidate needed at least 23,145 votes to avoid forfeiture.
While Vinesh Phogat emerged victorious, the election also saw the defeat of two other candidates, Indian National Lok Dal’s Surender Lathar and AAP’s Kavita Rani. Their deposits were also forfeited as they received less than 1/6th of the total votes cast.
Vinesh Phogat, a seasoned wrestler with numerous accolades including Olympic silver, World Championship bronze, and Commonwealth Games gold medals, proved to be a formidable opponent. She overcame strong competition from both BJP and AAP candidates, ultimately securing a decisive victory.
