Wed Oct 09 13:10:25 UTC 2024: Legendary Pakistan cricketer Zaheer Abbas has joined the call from former players and pundits for Babar Azam to be dropped from the national team due to his poor performances as both a batter and captain. Abbas criticized Babar’s underwhelming showing in the 2023 and 2024 World Cups and dismissed comparisons between Babar and India’s Virat Kohli, emphasizing that Kohli’s consistency surpasses Babar’s. He stated, “If he’s out of form, he should be out of the team.”
Abbas also expressed dissatisfaction with the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) and the team’s performance, especially following Babar’s reinstatement as captain after the 2023 World Cup, despite Pakistan’s continued struggle in the recent T20 World Cup.
Furthermore, Abbas highlighted the importance of the India-Pakistan rivalry for cricket, warning that if India opts for a neutral venue for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, it would be detrimental to the sport. He believes matches between the two nations are essential for cricket’s integrity.
