**Kollam, Kerala:** Renowned Malayalam film actor TP Madhavan passed away on Wednesday at a hospital in Kollam. He was 88. The actor, known for his versatility and captivating screen presence, had been battling dementia and his health had deteriorated after recent surgery.

Madhavan, who started his acting career at the age of 40 after working as a journalist, made his film debut in 1975 with the popular Malayalam movie ‘Ragam’. Over the course of his career, he graced over 600 films, primarily in Malayalam cinema, effortlessly navigating comedy and serious roles.

In 2016, Madhavan starred in his last film before his health took a turn for the worse. He spent his later years at an old age home in Kollam.

Madhavan was also a prominent figure in the Malayalam film industry’s association, AMMA. He served as its first general secretary.

Tributes poured in from fellow actors and filmmakers. Acclaimed director Kamal recalled Madhavan’s soft demeanor and described him as a voracious reader with a deep knowledge of various subjects. Actor Jayaram fondly remembered Madhavan’s warmth and the lively conversations he would spark during shooting days.

Madhavan is survived by his son, a film director based in Mumbai. His passing marks the end of an era for Malayalam cinema, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances and a warm, endearing personality that will be fondly remembered by audiences and colleagues alike.
