**Thiruvananthapuram, October 8, 2024:** The Kerala State Lottery, established in 1967, is a government-run scheme aimed at creating employment opportunities and supporting the state’s welfare programs. The lottery was introduced after the state banned all private lotteries.

As of 2024, the Kerala State Lottery employs over 500 people across 14 district offices, 21 sub-lottery offices, a regional deputy directorate in Ernakulam, and the directorate at Vikas Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram. Initially under the Finance Department, the lottery is now managed by the Excise Department.

The GST revenue generated from lottery ticket sales contributes significantly to Kerala’s welfare programs. Notably, the Karunya scheme, funded by lottery revenue, provides financial assistance to those unable to afford medical expenses. It particularly targets individuals battling life-threatening diseases like cancer, hemophilia, kidney issues, and heart problems. The scheme also aims to support preventative healthcare measures for Kerala’s underprivileged population.

Every month, hundreds of families find solace from poverty through the Kerala State Lottery. With draws held daily at 3 pm, thousands eagerly await the results, hoping to win millions.

The Kerala State Lottery is categorized into six bumper lotteries held annually, one monthly draw, and seven weekly draws each week. All draws are conducted at the Gorky Bhavan near Bakery Junction in Thiruvananthapuram.
