Wed Oct 09 06:11:06 UTC 2024: ## England’s Root Confident but Cautious Ahead of Pakistan Test Series

**KARACHI, PAKISTAN** – England captain Joe Root has expressed confidence ahead of the upcoming three-Test series against Pakistan, starting Monday, but acknowledged the challenge of playing in Pakistan’s backyard.

Despite England’s resounding 3-0 series victory in Pakistan in 2022, Root believes the upcoming series will require a strong performance from his team. “We learned a few things from that series, but playing against Pakistan at home is a challenge,” Root said. “Pakistan can definitely take advantage of their home conditions.”

The series will also see the emergence of some young English players eager to prove themselves, adding another layer of intrigue to the contest.

Root, currently the leading run-scorer in Test cricket this year with 986 runs, is poised to achieve several milestones during the series. He is on track to become the first batsman to reach 5,000 runs in World Test Championship matches and is just 71 runs away from surpassing Alastair Cook as England’s highest run-scorer in Test history.

While Pakistan suffered a recent 0-2 defeat against Bangladesh at home, Root remains wary of their strengths. “There is no doubt (that) they have always had a couple of good skilled players and we need to be just focused on what we are doing right,” he said.
