**Bijbehara, October 8, 2024:** Iltija Mufti, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, has conceded defeat in the Bijbehara constituency in today’s assembly elections.

In a post on X, Iltija expressed gratitude to the people of Bijbehara, stating, “I accept the verdict of the people. The love and affection I received from everyone in Bijbehara will always stay with me.” She also thanked her supporters and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for their efforts during the campaign.

The 37-year-old Iltija, who rose to political prominence during her mother’s detention following the revocation of Article 370 in 2019, was the PDP’s primary candidate in South Kashmir, a region historically considered the family’s political stronghold. This was the first time Mehbooba Mufti did not contest an election.

While acknowledging the people’s decision, Iltija’s concession reflects her commitment to democratic values. The election results are seen as a significant moment for the PDP, marking a shift in the political landscape of the region.
