Tue Oct 08 21:34:15 UTC 2024: ## Borno State Reports Successful Cholera Vaccination Campaign, No Deaths Recorded

**Maiduguri, Nigeria** – The Borno State Government has announced the successful completion of a cholera vaccination campaign, with over 287,000 people receiving the vaccine. The campaign, which began on September 25th, achieved a 96% success rate, according to the state’s Commissioner for Health, Prof. Baba Gana.

Despite the outbreak being officially declared on Friday, no deaths have been recorded from the 17 confirmed cases. The most affected local government areas are Maiduguri, Jere, Mafa, Konduga, and Monguno.

Prof. Gana attributed the successful containment of the outbreak to proactive measures taken by the state government and other stakeholders. The state received 300,000 doses of Oral Cholera Vaccines (OCV) from the Federal Ministry of Health, which were distributed to displaced persons camps and flood-affected communities. An additional 600,000 doses are expected to arrive soon.

While the vaccination campaign has been effective, the state is still reporting an increase in cases of Acute Watery Diarrhoea (AWD), likely due to the recent flood devastation. The commissioner urged the public to take precautionary measures, particularly regarding hygiene and sanitation, to prevent further spread of the disease.

The media has been called upon to partner with the government in providing public awareness about preventive measures and ensuring the safety of the population.
