Tue Oct 08 20:45:27 UTC 2024: ## Political Violence Erupts in Srikakulam: TDP Worker Killed in YCP Attack

**Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh:** Political tensions flared up in Vanavishnupuram, Polaki Mandal, during the Dussehra festivities, leading to a fatal clash between TDP and YCP cadres. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, left one TDP worker dead and another critically injured.

The violence erupted after a dispute between the two parties escalated, allegedly stemming from past political rivalries. According to eyewitnesses, a group of YCP cadres, led by former Sarpanch Palina Krishnamoorthy, attacked TDP worker Palina Veeraswamy (47) with knives, resulting in his death. Another TDP worker, Palina Ramarao, who attempted to intervene, sustained serious injuries.

The incident sparked panic among villagers who alerted the Polaki police. A police team, led by Narasannapeta Circle Inspector, reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The deceased and the injured were shifted to Narasannapeta Government Hospital.

Police investigations revealed that the attack was pre-planned and involved several individuals, including Palina Mohana Rao, S. Lachayya, Durgarao, Chellayya, and another unidentified person. The alleged attackers are currently absconding.

The violence is believed to have stemmed from the past Assembly elections, where Veeraswamy’s group supported the TDP. It is alleged that Krishnamoorthy harbored resentment towards the TDP workers for their support.

The incident has sparked outrage, with Central Minister Rammohan Naidu, State Minister Achennaidu, local MLA Baggu Ramanamurthy, and TDP leaders condemning the violence. Minister Achennaidu spoke to SP Maheshwar Reddy, demanding immediate action to prevent such incidents in the future.

The police have deployed additional security forces in the area to prevent further escalation of violence and are investigating the case further.
