Tue Oct 08 13:41:57 UTC 2024: ## J&K Election Authorities Crack Down on Employee Misconduct: Pay Increments Suspended for Election Campaigning Violations

**Srinagar, October 5:** In a bid to curb election-related misconduct, the Jammu and Kashmir election authorities have ordered the suspension of pay increments for government employees found guilty of campaigning violations during the recent assembly elections. The decision comes after over 50 employees were suspended and investigated for allegedly breaking the model code of conduct.

Chief Electoral Officer PK Pole, in a letter to all district election officers, directed them to conclude the ongoing investigations into the suspended employees’ cases. Proven violations will result in the withholding of one increment and a record of the offense in their service books, sending a strong message against future misconduct.

Since the announcement of the election schedule in September, the authorities have taken decisive action against employees participating in political activities. Notably, 21 employees were suspended on September 23, while 23 more were suspended on September 29 for violating the model code of conduct.

In addition to suspensions, 40 employees were reassigned to different offices to prevent any further election-related misconduct. This proactive approach aims to ensure a transparent and fair electoral process.

The Chief Electoral Officer emphasized the importance of deterring future violations, stating that the action will act as a strong deterrent for employees considering violating the model code of conduct during future elections.

The model code of conduct, issued by the Election Commission of India, aims to ensure a level playing field for all candidates and parties during elections. It prohibits government officials from engaging in activities that may influence voters or create an unfair advantage.

The J&K election authorities’ stringent action against employees who violated the model code of conduct during the recent elections sends a clear message of their commitment to upholding fair and transparent elections.
