Tue Oct 08 01:40:29 UTC 2024: ## Katyayani Devi: Goddess of Knowledge and Empowerment

**New Delhi, October 8, 2024:** As the sixth day of the Ashwin Shukla Paksha, or the bright half of the lunar month Ashwin, marks the worship of Katyayani Devi, a fierce and benevolent form of Goddess Durga. Revered as the embodiment of knowledge and enlightenment, Katyayani is said to bestow wisdom and inner awakening upon her devotees.

According to Hindu mythology, Katyayani was born in the lineage of sage Katyayana, who worshipped Goddess Parvati with the desire to have her grace his family. Katyayani is believed to have emerged from the combined powers of Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh, and she eventually vanquished the demon Mahishasura. The goddess is also known as the presiding deity of Braj Mandala, where the Gopis worshipped her to attain Lord Krishna as their husband.

Depicted as a four-armed deity radiating divine light, Katyayani holds a sword in her left hand and a lotus flower in the other. Her right hand blesses devotees with an Abhaya (fearless) and Varada (bestowing gifts) mudra. This powerful goddess is particularly relevant in the present scientific age as she is seen as the deity of research and exploration.

Worship of Katyayani is believed to lead to the attainment of Dharma (righteousness), Artha (prosperity), Kama (desire), and Moksha (liberation). Her presence awakens the inner self and guides devotees towards self-discovery and enlightenment. Katyayani’s association with the Ajna chakra (the sixth chakra located between the eyebrows) promotes balance and clarity, enabling devotees to witness the world with an objective perspective.

The goddess’s influence extends beyond the spiritual realm, empowering devotees with a foresight and understanding of time. Katyayani’s blessings help individuals transcend material knowledge to attain higher, spiritual wisdom.

A prominent temple dedicated to Katyayani Devi is located in Chhatarpur, Delhi. Her teachings resonate with the achievements of modern women like scientist Ritu Karihal, who played a key role in the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission. Countless other women are contributing significantly to the nation’s progress through their scientific endeavors.
