**PALM DESERT, Calif.** – In a moment that resonated far beyond basketball, LeBron James and his son Bronny James became the first father-son duo to play together in an NBA game during the Los Angeles Lakers’ preseason loss to the Phoenix Suns on Sunday.
The historic moment occurred on Bronny’s 20th birthday, making the occasion even more special for the James family. LeBron, visibly emotional, described the shared court time as a “family dream” realized.
“For someone who didn’t have that growing up, to be able to have that influence on your kids and have that influence on your son, be able to have moments with your son — and the ultimate, to be able to work with your son — that’s one of the greatest things that a father could ever hope for or wish for,” said LeBron.
While the Lakers lost the game, the father-son duo’s shared minutes were a highlight. Bronny entered the game in the second quarter and played alongside his father for just over four minutes, a moment neither will soon forget.
“It’s pretty cool for the both of us, and especially for our family,” said LeBron. “It’s definitely a moment that I will never forget.”
The experience, however, was more than just a historical moment. It was a celebration of family and a testament to LeBron’s enduring legacy.
“It speaks to LeBron’s longevity, but also his competitive stamina that he’s able to still be doing this in Year 22,” said Lakers coach JJ Redick. “It speaks to the work that Bronny has put in to get to this point.”
With LeBron beginning his record-tying 22nd NBA season and Bronny entering the league as a rookie, the father-son duo is set to create many more memories on the court. The Lakers’ regular season begins on October 22nd, and while Bronny is expected to spend much of the season with the G League, he will undoubtedly get more opportunities to share the court with his father.
