Tue Oct 08 14:13:01 UTC 2024: ## England’s Joe Root Makes World Test Championship History!
**Multan, Pakistan:** England’s star batsman, Joe Root, has etched his name into the World Test Championship (WTC) record books by becoming the first batter to score 5000 runs in the competition. Root achieved this milestone during the first Test against Pakistan in Multan.
Root, who was just 27 runs away from the landmark before the Test, reached the milestone during the third session of the second day. He now stands as the only batsman to have achieved this feat in the history of the WTC.
“It’s a special achievement, especially considering how difficult it is to consistently perform at the highest level,” said Root after the match. “I’m just happy to have contributed to the team’s success and hope to keep contributing in the future.”
This achievement is a testament to Root’s incredible consistency and his ability to adapt to various conditions. He has also been in exceptional form this year, with four centuries in Test matches. This feat has placed him second in the list of batsmen who have scored 1000 Test runs in a calendar year, trailing only the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
The next highest run-scorer in the WTC is Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne with 3904 runs. The absence of any Indian batsmen in the top five highest run-scorers in the WTC has surprised fans.
With this latest achievement, Joe Root continues to cement his place as one of the greatest batsmen of his generation and is on the path to break many more records.
