**Srinagar, October 07:** Exit polls conducted after the recently concluded Jammu & Kashmir assembly elections predict a hung assembly, with no single party likely to secure a majority. While surveys suggest a strong showing for the National Conference-Congress alliance, they also predict a close contest, leaving the formation of a government uncertain.
The BJP is projected to secure a substantial number of seats, ranging from 20 to 32, according to the exit polls. However, the PDP, led by Mehbooba Mufti, is predicted to secure only a handful of seats.
The elections, held in three phases for 90 seats, have drawn national attention, marking the first since the abrogation of Article 370 and the subsequent reorganisation of the state in 2019. The results are scheduled to be declared on October 8th. A minimum of 46 seats are required to form a government.
In the 2014 elections, a similar hung assembly led to a coalition government between the BJP and PDP. However, the two parties contested separately this time, with the Congress and National Conference forming an alliance under the ‘India’ banner.
Exit polls by various organizations, including Republic Matrix, Dainik Bhaskar, India Today-C-Voter, and Axis My India, have predicted a close contest.
The National Conference-Congress alliance is projected to secure 35-48 seats, according to the surveys. The BJP is predicted to win 20-34 seats, while the PDP is projected to win only 4-12 seats.
The results of the election will be keenly watched across the country, as they will determine the political landscape of Jammu & Kashmir in the coming years.
