Tue Oct 08 00:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Prescribed Burn Planned Near Peachland to Begin This Week
**Peachland, BC – October 7, 2024** – A prescribed burn covering 85 hectares near Peachland is set to begin as early as Tuesday, October 8th. The BC Wildfire Service, in collaboration with the Penticton Indian Band, Westbank First Nation, and the Okanagan Nation Alliance, will conduct the controlled burn.
Smoke and flames may be visible from Peachland, Summerland, Kelowna, and surrounding areas, including along Highway 97, from October 8th to November 30th, 2024. The exact timing of the burn will be determined by weather, site, and venting conditions.
“The Penticton Indian Band, Westbank First Nation, and the BC Wildfire Service will carefully control and monitor the fire at all times,” reassured BCWS in a news release.
This project, initiated in 2017, is being implemented with support from Gorman Brothers Ltd. and the Okanagan Shuswap Resource District.
