Clinton, NC – Over 100 enthusiastic young agriculturalists from Sampson County participated in the annual Sampson Showdown, a two-day livestock competition held last weekend. The event, which is part of the Eastern Carolina Showmanship Circuit, saw youth showcasing their skills with pigs, heifers, lambs, and goats.
The competition was fierce, with young exhibitors vying for belt buckles, jackets, prizes, and banners. The winners, who were all smiles, showed their dedication and passion for their animals.
“We changed the name to the Sampson Showdown last year,” said Amanda Knight, 4-H youth development and extension agent. “This year we had a fantastic turnout, and it’s great to see so many young kids participating in this agricultural competition.”
The showdown wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of sponsors including Hog Slat, Prestage, Smithfield Foods, Mule City Speciality Feeds, Big Blue Store, Minuteman Press, JDS Advertising, and FATS Automotive.
The Sampson Showdown serves as a testament to the county’s rich agricultural heritage and provides valuable experience for young people interested in livestock and agriculture.
