Tue Oct 08 14:35:07 UTC 2024: ## Over Rs 130 Crore Seized, Over 1,200 MCC Violations Reported in Jammu and Kashmir Elections

**Jammu:** The ongoing Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections have seen a significant number of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations and seizures of cash and materials, according to poll officials. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) P K Pole reported a total of 1,263 MCC violations, with 600 already resolved after investigations and appropriate action.

Enforcement agencies have seized assets worth a total of Rs 130 crore, with the police department leading the way at Rs 107.50 crore. Other significant seizures were made by the CGST (Rs 9.88 crore), SGST/CT (Rs 8.03 crore), the Narcotics Control Bureau (Rs 2.06 crore), the Income Tax Department (Rs 87 lakh), and the State Excise Department (Rs 50 lakh).

Authorities have taken a stern stance against illegal activities involving drugs, cash, and liquor, registering 32 FIRs. Additionally, notices have been issued to 115 candidates, political parties, media houses, and others for alleged MCC violations.

Despite the violations, voter turnout in the first two phases was robust, with 61.38% participation recorded on September 18 and 57.31% on September 26. The third and final phase of voting is scheduled for October 1, with results announced on October 8.

This election marks the first in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution in August 2019.
