Tue Oct 08 05:50:59 UTC 2024: ## Haryana Election Results: BJP Leads After Shocking Turnaround

**Chandigarh:** The counting of votes for the 90 Haryana Assembly seats has concluded with a dramatic turnaround, handing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a clear majority. Earlier in the morning, the Congress party was leading in the initial trends, securing a strong advantage with 65 seats. However, the BJP surged ahead around 9:30 AM, reducing the gap to just two seats. The race tightened further as both parties reached 43 seats each at 9:44 AM.

The BJP eventually secured a comfortable lead, reaching 46 seats. According to the Election Commission data, the BJP is ahead in 27 seats by a margin of less than 2,000 votes, leaving the possibility of a late swing. Notably, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is leading from the Ladwa seat, and Savitri Jindal is ahead in Hisar.

Meanwhile, wrestler Vinesh Phogat appears to be trailing in the Julana seat. The election, which saw 67.90% voter turnout (slightly less than the 2019 polls), witnessed a surprising outcome, defying most pre-election predictions.

Several exit polls, including those conducted by Bhaskar and 13 other agencies, had predicted a Congress victory with 50-55 seats.

The outcome in Haryana follows a pattern seen in previous elections. The last five state elections between 2000 and 2019 saw a decrease or minimal increase in voter turnout resulting in hung assemblies. This trend, historically, favored the incumbent party.
