Mon Oct 07 23:22:06 UTC 2024: ## TMC Leader Arrested in R.G. Kar Medical College Financial Irregularities Case

**Kolkata:** The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Ashish Pandey on Thursday in connection with the financial irregularities case at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. Pandey is accused of aiding the former principal of the college, Dr. Sandeep Kumar Ghosh, who was also arrested in the same case. This marks the fifth arrest in the ongoing investigation.

The CBI had previously arrested Dr. Ghosh, his bodyguard, and two vendors in connection with the financial irregularities at the medical college. The agency found evidence suggesting a close relationship between Dr. Ghosh and Ashish Pandey, indicating that Pandey assisted the former principal in committing financial irregularities within the institution.

Pandey, who was a staff member at the medical college and a prominent youth leader of the TMC, was under CBI scrutiny for several weeks. The agency had interrogated him for hours last month.

The R.G. Kar Medical College was also the site of a tragic incident in August, where a trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty. Dr. Ghosh was arrested on September 2nd for the alleged corruption and later for the rape and murder case.

The CBI registered an FIR against Dr. Ghosh and three private entities – Maa Tara Traders, Eshan Cafe, and Khama Lauha – following directives from the Calcutta High Court. The agency conducted search operations at the premises of all these entities.

The charges against Dr. Ghosh and the private entities include sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (fraud) of the Indian Penal Code, along with provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
