**EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ** – The New York Giants are facing another hurdle in their already-struggling 2024 season as rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers has been ruled out for their Week 5 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks due to a concussion.
Nabers, who has been a bright spot for the 1-3 Giants, leads the league in receptions (35) and ranks second in receiving yards (386) through four games. The injury occurred during the Giants’ Week 4 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and he hasn’t practiced this week.
Head coach Brian Daboll emphasized the importance of Nabers’ safety and well-being, stating he will “do everything we can do to get him as healthy and right as we can.” While Nabers is making progress, he won’t be travelling with the team to Seattle.
The loss of Nabers is a major blow to the Giants’ struggling offense, which ranks 29th in the NFL with just 15 points per game. Quarterback Daniel Jones has heavily relied on Nabers, targeting him on 36% of his passes this season.
The Giants are also dealing with other injuries. Running back Devin Singletary is expected to play despite a groin injury, while several other key players, including Adoree’ Jackson, Dru Phillips, Brian Burns, and Wan’Dale Robinson, are dealing with various ailments.
With Nabers out, Robinson, who has 26 catches for 194 yards and a touchdown this season, is expected to step into a starting role alongside Darius Slayton. Bryce Ford-Wheaton, Ihmir Smith-Marsette, and Jalin Hyatt will round out the depth chart.
There is no timetable for Nabers’ return. Daboll stated that Nabers is improving daily but is not yet ready to progress to the next stage of concussion protocol. The Giants are hoping to have their star rookie back for their Week 6 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
