Mon Oct 07 00:11:23 UTC 2024: ## Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal Faces Season-Ending Injury, Contract Extended
**MADRID (AP)** – Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal will miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury during their La Liga victory over Villarreal on Saturday. Tests revealed a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, ruptured external collateral ligament, and ruptured popliteus tendon in his right leg.
The 32-year-old Spaniard, who joined Real Madrid’s youth academy in 2002, went down in pain during second-half stoppage time after a challenge by a Villarreal opponent. He was visibly distraught as he was carried off the pitch on a stretcher.
Despite the injury, Real Madrid announced an extension of Carvajal’s contract until June 2026, demonstrating their commitment to the veteran defender. He will undergo surgery in the coming days.
This is another significant blow for Real Madrid, who already dealt with a series of knee ligament injuries last season, including goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, and defenders Éder Militão and David Alaba.
Meanwhile, forward Vinícius Júnior sustained a cervical injury in the same match and will be sidelined for an unspecified amount of time.
Carvajal’s absence will be a major loss for Real Madrid, who are currently in second place in La Liga. He has been a key player for the club for over a decade, winning 26 titles including six Champions League trophies.
