**KARACHI, PAKISTAN** – A powerful explosion near Karachi’s international airport on Sunday night has left one person dead and at least 10 others injured, including one foreigner. The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), a Pakistani separatist militant group, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The explosion, which occurred on the road leading out of the airport, is believed to have been caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), according to Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar. The blast was heard across the city, and plumes of smoke were seen billowing from the area.
Television footage showed a large fire engulfing several vehicles near the blast site, including those typically used by VIP protocol vehicles. The fire reportedly spread from the initial explosion.
Injured individuals have been transported to a nearby hospital, while authorities are currently investigating the incident.
This attack marks the latest in a series of violent incidents targeting security forces and civilians in Pakistan, with the BLA claiming responsibility for many of them.
