**OTTAWA, CANADA –** Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today issued a statement celebrating World Teachers’ Day, highlighting the vital role educators play in shaping the future of Canada and beyond.
“Teachers are the best,” Trudeau stated, acknowledging their dedication to learning, growth, and supporting students. He went on to express gratitude for the “hard work and sacrifice” teachers dedicate to their students every day.
Trudeau also announced a new initiative to support educators, the launch of the nominations for the 2025 Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence, Teaching Excellence in STEM, and Excellence in Early Childhood Education.
“I invite Canadians to nominate an outstanding educator from their community who has made a real difference in their life, or in the life of one of their children,” Trudeau encouraged.
The statement also emphasized the federal government’s ongoing support for educators and students. This includes programs like CanCode, which provides professional development opportunities for 100,000 teachers in coding and artificial intelligence, and the new National School Food Program, which will provide healthy meals for up to 400,000 students.
Beyond Canada’s borders, the government is also working to increase access to quality education globally through initiatives like the Global Partnership for Education and the Simameni project.
“Today, on World Teachers’ Day, and every day, let’s show our gratitude and give thanks to our teachers and educators,” Trudeau concluded. “They make the world better and more prosperous.”
