**Kolkata, India:** Defending ISL champions Mohun Bagan SG showcased their dominance in the league, handily defeating Mohammedan SC 3-0 in the season’s first Kolkata derby. All three goals were scored in a powerful first-half performance, leaving Mohammedan SC coach Andrey Chernyshov impressed but ultimately acknowledging the gulf in quality between the two teams.
“Today, Mohun Bagan SG showed us the true level of ISL,” said Chernyshov. “They played very well and have many quality players. We tried, we fought, but there was a big difference in quality.”
The Russian coach attributed the loss in part to fatigue, but primarily to Mohun Bagan’s superior skill. “It was as if we drove Tata and they drove Ferrari,” he admitted, highlighting the difference in performance.

While Mohammedan SC were missing midfielder Alexis Gomez, Chernyshov maintained that the defeat wasn’t due to his absence. He believes that teams are now taking Mohammedan SC more seriously after their strong showing in the I-League.
