Sun Oct 06 14:37:45 UTC 2024: ## Ladakh Activist Sonam Wangchuk Resumes Hunger Strike for Statehood
**New Delhi, October 6 (ANI):** Ladakh activist Sonam Wangchuk has resumed his indefinite hunger strike, demanding statehood for the region and its inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. Wangchuk, who was previously detained by Delhi Police, claims he was denied a suitable location for his peaceful protest. He insists he is not seeking support but welcomes those who understand Ladakh’s struggles and rights.
Wangchuk and his supporters were initially detained while traveling to Delhi, allegedly violating prohibitory orders. However, they were later released after a brief detention, during which they engaged in Satyagraha, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi. Authorities assured them that a meeting with top leaders would be arranged to discuss Ladakh’s demands.
Wangchuk and his supporters believe that inclusion in the Sixth Schedule would empower the local population to protect their land and cultural identity. This demand is supported by the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA).
The Delhi High Court has confirmed that Wangchuk is no longer under restraint.
