Chennai is gearing up for a grand display of aerial prowess as the Indian Air Force (IAF) hosts its annual airshow on Sunday, October 8th, marking the 92nd anniversary of the force. The event will be held at Marina Beach from 11 am to 1 pm, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin as the chief guests.
The airshow promises an impressive spectacle, featuring a diverse fleet of aircraft including the indigenous Tejas fighter jet, the Sukhoi 30, and the Rafale. Other participating aircraft include the Akash Ganga team, Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT), Sarang Team, Chetak, HTT-40, Dakota, Pilatus PC-7, Harvard, C-295, DO-228, AEW@C, Mig-29, IL-78, Mirage, P8i, and Jaguar.
With 72 aircraft from various IAF bases across the country, the event aims to set a new record by attracting an estimated 15 lakh attendees, according to Air Vice Marshal K Prem Kumar. The airshow will showcase the skills of the IAF’s pilots and highlight the strength and versatility of its air fleet.
The Greater Chennai Traffic Police has announced traffic diversions and encouraged attendees to use metro and MRTS services for smoother travel. This year’s airshow follows previous events held in Prayagraj (2023) and Chandigarh (2022).
The Marina Beach airshow promises to be a thrilling experience for aviation enthusiasts and a tribute to the valiant service of the IAF.
