**Portland, Dorset:** Staff and individuals with additional support needs from Muntsy’s Day Centre have revitalized a neglected area of Portland, restoring it to a presentable state.
The group has been maintaining the Castletown area since 2017, tending planted boats, flowerbeds, and regularly picking up litter. However, following the COVID-19 pandemic, the area became overgrown and difficult to manage.
Muntsy’s, a commissioned day service for adults with diverse needs, received crucial support from Macdonald’s staff volunteers to tackle the overgrowth.
“Community work tasks are vital for us,” a spokesperson for Muntsy’s said. “They encourage a positive work ethic, teamwork, and communication skills, fostering a connection to the community.”
The group worked diligently to remove weeds from the pavements, revamp and replant containers on the roundabout, and generally enhance the area’s appearance.
“Everyone worked their socks off,” the spokesperson added. “We are incredibly grateful to the McDonald’s team for enabling us to maintain this area going forward. It is now manageable.”
Muntsy’s expressed thanks to Litter Free Dorset, Portland Port, and Agincare for their ongoing support. This collaboration exemplifies the positive impact of community engagement and the valuable contributions of individuals with additional support needs.
