Sat Oct 05 23:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Colorado School of Mines’ Historic Win Streak Snapped by Colorado Mesa

**Grand Junction, CO** – The Colorado School of Mines football team’s dominant run in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) came to an abrupt end on Saturday. The No. 4 ranked Orediggers suffered a stunning 14-13 loss to Colorado Mesa at Stocker Stadium.

This defeat marked the end of a remarkable 24-game winning streak in the RMAC, dating back to the 2021 season. This was the longest conference winning streak in NCAA Division II football. It’s also likely to end Mines’ 27-week streak in the top 10 of the AFCA national poll.

The Mavericks’ victory was particularly impressive, as they held the nation’s 10th-ranked Mines offense to just 267 yards, nearly 200 yards below their season average. Mesa quarterback Liu Aumavae, a transfer from San Diego State, threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to freshman wide receiver Quezon Villa with 5:29 remaining in the game. The Mavericks then converted a two-point conversion to secure the victory.

Despite the setback, the Orediggers still hold a 31-16 series lead over Mesa since 1975.

Mines quarterback Evan Foster finished the game with 159 passing yards and 54 rushing yards, while Max McLeod led the receiving corps with 92 yards.

The Orediggers will look to rebound this Saturday at Marv Kay Stadium, where they host South Dakota Mines at noon.
