Sat Oct 05 11:08:32 UTC 2024: ## Haryana Votes: Vinesh Phogat Appeals for High Turnout, BJP Aims for Third Term
**Julana, Haryana:** Olympic wrestler and Congress candidate Vinesh Phogat cast her vote in the Haryana Assembly elections today, urging people to come out and vote for the party that advocates for women’s rights. She highlighted the importance of this election, calling it a “huge festival” and emphasizing the need for a change.
Phogat emphasized the positive impact of the Congress government during Bhupinder Hooda’s tenure, claiming it fostered a flourishing sports environment in the state. She also criticized the BJP, pointing to their alleged mistreatment of farmers and other groups.
This election sees a multi-party battle, with the BJP seeking a third consecutive term, Congress hoping for a comeback, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) seeking to make inroads. The pre-poll alliance between the Indian National Lok Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party (INLD-BSP) and the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP)-Azad Samaj Party (ASP) is also in the fray.
A total of 1,031 candidates are contesting across 90 constituencies, with over 200 million eligible voters casting their ballots. Security is heightened across the state with over 29,000 police personnel and 10,000 Special Police Officers deployed to ensure a safe and fair voting process.
The results of the Haryana Assembly elections, along with those of Jammu and Kashmir, will be declared on October 8th.
