Fri Oct 04 22:38:26 UTC 2024: ## Virgin Atlantic Returns to Accra, Ghana in Summer 2025
**London, UK – October 26, 2023** – Virgin Atlantic announced its return to Accra, Ghana, with daily flights commencing on May 1, 2025. This marks the airline’s re-entry to the route after a 12-year absence. Flights will operate from London Heathrow (LHR) to Kotoka International Airport (ACC) using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
The route is expected to see strong demand, particularly from the visiting friends and relatives (VFR) travel segment, given the UK’s large Ghanaian diaspora. Approximately 10% of passengers are anticipated to connect through London to New York’s John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport.
Beyond passenger services, Virgin Atlantic anticipates significant cargo operations, offering 30 metric tons of cargo space per flight. This will support the transport of goods like fresh produce between Ghana and key markets in the UK and the US. Trade between the UK and Ghana reached a substantial £1.2 billion ($1.6 billion) in the year leading up to the first quarter of 2024.
Virgin Atlantic will compete with British Airways on the 3,167-mile (2,752-nautical mile) route. British Airways currently operates daily flights from Heathrow to Accra with A350-1000s and four weekly flights from London Gatwick with Boeing 777s.
