Sat Oct 05 14:49:51 UTC 2024: ## Liverpool Edge Out Crystal Palace in Tight Encounter

**LONDON -** Liverpool maintained their top spot in the Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday. Diogo Jota’s early goal proved to be the difference, despite a late scare when Alisson was forced off injured.

Palace started brightly, with Eddie Nketiah getting on the scoresheet within 30 seconds, only to be ruled offside. Liverpool took the lead in the ninth minute when Cody Gakpo set up Jota for his fourth goal of the season. Jota missed further opportunities to extend the lead before half-time, while Palace’s Ismaila Sarr was denied by Alisson.

The second half saw Liverpool control possession but struggle to create clear chances. Mohamed Salah tested Dean Henderson in the Palace goal, while Jota squandered another opportunity. Alisson was forced off injured after a rushed clearance, allowing Vitezslav Jaros to make his Liverpool debut.

Palace pressed hard in the final stages, with Eze and Mateta coming close to scoring. However, Jaros made crucial saves to secure the victory for Liverpool, who now sit four points clear at the top of the table.

“It’s always tough to come here. The results have been close over the years,” said Virgil van Dijk, named Man of the Match. “We could have played better in the second half, but it’s three big points and we go into the international break on a high.”

Crystal Palace, meanwhile, remain winless with just three points from seven games.
