**EL SEGUNDO, California** – LeBron James and Anthony Davis will be taking the court together this weekend for the Los Angeles Lakers’ first two preseason games, marking their return after a busy summer that included Olympic gold. The superstars could see action in one or both games, according to new coach JJ Redick, who spoke about the team’s plans before their trip to the Coachella Valley.

The Lakers will face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday and the Phoenix Suns on Sunday in Palm Desert, California. This weekend’s games will also be historic as LeBron James could share the court with his son, Bronny, the team’s second-round draft pick. This would mark the first time in NBA history that a father and son play together, let alone on the same team.

Both LeBron and Bronny are eager for the opportunity, and the rest of the Lakers are excited to see the competitive James family dynamic unfold.

“It’s fantastic to be able to be here and witness it in practice,” Davis said Wednesday. “Bronny hit a 3 over (LeBron), (and) everybody was talking smack in Bronny’s favour. Then Bron came down and just bullied somebody and got a layup. … Even though they weren’t matched up, the competition is there, and that’s what we love to see.”

Bronny, who turns 20 on Sunday, is expected to get significant playing time in the preseason before spending a good amount of the regular season with the South Bay Lakers of the G League.

James and Davis were both instrumental in the U.S. team winning gold at the Paris Olympics. After an extended vacation in Europe, James is now gearing up for his 22nd NBA season, tying him with Vince Carter for the longest career in league history.

James and Davis have both been in close communication with coach Redick this week, outlining their plans and preparation for the upcoming season. Davis appears to be in top shape after playing a career-best 76 games last season.

The Lakers are currently playing all their preseason games outside of Los Angeles due to renovations at their downtown arena. They will open their regular season at home against Minnesota on October 22nd.
