**New Delhi, India** – The second day of Navratri, a nine-day Hindu festival, is dedicated to Maa Brahmacharini, the embodiment of penance, austerity, and self-discipline. Devotees across India are worshipping the goddess, who is known for her purity, spiritual wisdom, and unwavering focus.
Maa Brahmacharini is depicted as a young woman, adorned in white, carrying a jap mala (prayer beads) and a kamandal (a water pot). She is revered for her devotion to knowledge and is seen as a symbol of inner strength and perseverance.
The color of the day is green, signifying nature, growth, and serenity. Devotees are encouraged to offer jasmine flowers, rice, and sandalwood to the goddess.
The Dwitiya tithi, or second lunar day, lasts until 5:30 am on October 5th. Devotees are advised to rise early, take a bath, and offer prayers and offerings to Maa Brahmacharini. Special bhog (offerings) of sugar are traditionally prepared in her honor.
This year, Navratri coincides with a major anti-Maoist operation in Chhattisgarh, where 28 Naxalites were killed in a joint security forces encounter. The incident has been hailed by both the Chief Minister and Union Minister Amit Shah, who reiterated the government’s commitment to eliminating Naxalism by 2026.
