Fri Oct 04 21:06:31 UTC 2024: ## Chelsea Showing Promise Under Maresca, But Manager Plays Down Title Hopes
Chelsea has enjoyed a strong start to life under new manager, Angelo Maresca, winning five of their last five matches across all competitions. The Blues have been particularly impressive in attack, netting 27 goals in 10 games under the Italian, with 15 of those coming in the Premier League.
However, Maresca is quick to temper expectations, stating that Chelsea is “not ready” to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal for silverware.
“I really don’t think we can compete with City or Arsenal,” Maresca said, emphasizing that both sides have enjoyed long-term stability under their respective managers, a luxury Chelsea hasn’t had.
Maresca points to the significant impact of having a manager for a sustained period, referencing comments made by Luis Enrique after Arsenal beat PSG in the Champions League. Enrique highlighted the difference in time spent at the club between the two sides, Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta being in place for five years compared to PSG’s manager’s year and a half in charge.
Since the arrival of Maresca, Chelsea has undergone another significant transfer window, bringing in 13 new players. Maresca, however, is urging patience as the team continues to gel under his leadership.
“The target is to improve and slowly, slowly to get closer to those clubs, but at the moment we are not ready for that,” Maresca stated.
Chelsea faces Nottingham Forest at home this weekend before the international break, providing a further opportunity to build on their impressive form and continue their development under the new manager.
