**Brisbane, October 5, 2024:** A four-bedroom home in the sought-after Brisbane suburb of Wishart sold for a whopping $1.662 million after a grueling 60-bid auction, surpassing the median property price for the area by over $300,000.
The house at 8 Kentwell Pl, which had been in the same family for 24 years, attracted 16 registered bidders, 14 of whom actively participated in the bidding war. The auction, which started at $1 million, quickly escalated, with bids increasing by hundreds of thousands of dollars before slowing down to increments of $1,000 to $2,000 after reaching $1.6 million.
The winning bidder, who participated over the phone, was described as “consistent all the way” by agent Joel Butler. His mother attended the auction in person.
“It was the longest auction we’ve ever done,” said Butler, who, along with fellow agent Matthew Jones, represented the sellers, an empty-nester couple looking to downsize. “Four bidders were particularly competitive,” he added.
The agents attributed the record-breaking price to the property’s excellent condition and its location in a highly desirable area. “It wasn’t a complete surprise,” said Jones, “but we were absolutely thrilled with the result.”
The sale marks another indication of the fierce competition in the Brisbane property market. A recent sale on the same street saw the property pass in at $1.55 million.
While the sellers were “happy, [but] a bit emotional” about leaving their home after decades, the successful sale underscores the growing demand for properties in Wishart, a trend that is likely to continue in the near future.
