Fri Oct 04 21:38:42 UTC 2024: ## Maharashtra Deputy Speaker, MP, and MLAs Jump From Building in Reservation Protest

**Mumbai, India:** A dramatic protest unfolded in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly building today, involving the Deputy Speaker, a Member of Parliament (MP), and three Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). The individuals, led by Maharashtra’s Deputy Speaker and NCP leader Narhari Zirwal, jumped from the third floor of the building during a protest over the inclusion of the Dhangar community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) reservation category.

Despite the protest’s dramatic nature, no injuries were reported, as a safety net had been installed beforehand anticipating the possibility of such an action. The protest arose from the outrage of various tribal communities who oppose the inclusion of the Dhangar community in the ST reservation category. They demand the removal of the Dhangar community from the list.

Visuals of the incident, showing the Deputy Speaker and other politicians jumping into the safety net, have been circulating on social media. The group, including BJP MP Hemant Savre, and MLAs Kiran Lahamathe, Kiramn Khoskar, and Rajesh Patil, subsequently climbed back up and continued their protest.

This event underscores the growing tensions surrounding reservation policies in India, particularly in Maharashtra, where tribal communities feel their interests are threatened by the inclusion of other groups in their reserved category.
