Sat Oct 05 12:18:30 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Witnessing High-Voltage Drama Over Bus Marshal Reinstatement

**New Delhi:** A high-voltage drama unfolded in Delhi on Saturday over the reinstatement of bus marshals, with AAP leaders and BJP MLAs clashing at the LG House. Delhi CM Atishi, accompanied by AAP ministers and MLAs, reached the LG’s office to submit a cabinet note seeking approval for the reinstatement.

The AAP claims BJP MLAs attempted to flee the premises after the note was passed, but were stopped by AAP minister Saurabh Bhardwaj who physically restrained them.

“CM Atishi herself went to the LG House in a BJP MLA’s car to ensure the MLAs couldn’t escape,” the AAP alleged.

The AAP further accused BJP MLAs of refusing to even speak to the LG about the issue, accusing them of playing politics and not wanting to address the issue.

Atishi confirmed the AAP had called an emergency cabinet meeting and signed the proposal passed by the Delhi Assembly for regularizing the bus marshals. She alleged BJP’s reluctance to support the reinstatement, calling it a betrayal of the marshals.

Delhi BJP president Virender Sachdeva dismissed the incident as a “stunt” by AAP, stating they had already met the LG regarding the issue before AAP’s drama.

Following the incident, Bhardwaj, other AAP MLAs, and some of the bus marshals were detained by the Delhi police, who subsequently cleared the area around Raj Niwas Road.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s former CM and AAP national convener, Arvind Kejriwal, expressed pride in his ministers for their efforts to get the bus marshals reinstated. He appealed to the LG and the BJP to stop playing politics and expedite the reinstatement process.

It is worth noting that over 10,000 civil defence volunteers, deployed as marshals in public transport buses, were removed last year due to objections from the Directorate of Civil Defence, claiming they were appointed for disaster management duties.
