Sat Oct 05 15:10:51 UTC 2024: ## Political Drama in Delhi Secretariat: BJP, AAP in Tug-of-War Over 10,000 Bus Marshals’ Jobs
**New Delhi:** A political drama unfolded at the Delhi Secretariat on Saturday as the BJP and AAP engaged in a heated battle over the reinstatement and permanent employment of 10,000 DTC bus marshals.
The BJP, demanding the re-employment of the marshals, met with Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and pressured him to call an emergency cabinet meeting. The meeting resulted in the passing of a resolution by the Delhi Assembly, seeking the regularization of the bus marshals.
The AAP, however, placed the onus on the BJP to secure the Lieutenant Governor’s approval for the resolution, urging them to approach the LG’s office. This led to a dramatic scene outside the secretariat, where BJP leader Vijendra Gupta hesitated to visit the LG’s office, prompting AAP ministers like Saurabh Bhardwaj to physically plead with him to proceed.
CM Sisodia, who even joined Gupta in his car, clarified that the BJP had not asked the LG to pass the cabinet note and the ball was now in their court. She accused the BJP of playing politics and instigating the bus marshals.
Gupta, however, alleged that the AAP was merely engaging in a “stunt” and accused them of playing with the futures of these young men, whose employment was terminated by the previous AAP government on October 11, 2023. He assured that the BJP was ready to cooperate fully with the government in their efforts to restore the marshals’ jobs.
The BJP also claimed that the AAP government had failed to fulfill promises made to guest teachers, contract employees, doctors, and others regarding permanent employment and timely payment of salaries. They pointed out the lack of reservation for SC, ST, and OBC categories in the bus marshals’ recruitment process.
