The ninth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup is set to begin in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on October 3rd, with Bangladesh facing Scotland and Pakistan taking on Sri Lanka in Sharjah.
The tournament features ten teams vying for the coveted title, divided into two groups. Defending champions Australia, winners of the last three editions, are considered the frontrunners. They have dominated the tournament, claiming the trophy all but twice, with England winning the inaugural edition in 2009 and West Indies emerging victorious in 2016. The Aussies will be looking to secure their seventh title and begin their campaign against Sri Lanka on Saturday.
India, who reached the final in 2020, are also eyeing a strong performance, drawing inspiration from the men’s team’s victory at this year’s T20 World Cup. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and her squad will face New Zealand in their opening match on Friday.
Each team will play four matches in the group stage, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals on October 17th and 18th. The final will be held in Dubai on October 20th.
The tournament will be televised in India on Star Sports and streamed live on Disney+Hotstar, offering cricket fans a chance to witness the world’s best women’s cricketers in action.
