Thu Oct 03 16:45:07 UTC 2024: ## Sri Lankan Bowler Praveen Jayawickrama Banned for a Year for Corruption Code Violation
**Colombo, Sri Lanka:** Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama has been banned for a year from all forms of cricket by the International Cricket Council (ICC), with six months of the ban suspended. This comes after Jayawickrama admitted to breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.
The charges relate to incidents involving both international cricket and the Lanka Premier League. Jayawickrama admitted to violating Article 2.4.7 of the code, which prohibits hindering or delaying any investigation by the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit. This includes concealing, tampering with, or destroying any documents or other information that could be relevant to the investigation or that may constitute evidence or lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct under the Anti-Corruption Code.
The 25-year-old bowler is accused of failing to report approaches for match-fixing in international matches as well as in the Lanka Premier League in 2021.
While the ban is for a year, the final six months have been suspended. This means Jayawickrama will be eligible to play again after serving six months of the ban.
This decision sends a strong message about the ICC’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the game and punishing those who violate its anti-corruption regulations.
