Wed Oct 02 17:26:09 UTC 2024: ## CIA Launches Recruitment Drive for Informants in China, Iran, and North Korea

**WASHINGTON** – The CIA has announced a new initiative to recruit informants in China, Iran, and North Korea, expanding on its successful efforts to enlist Russians. The agency has posted instructions in Mandarin, Farsi, and Korean on its social media accounts, including X, Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, LinkedIn, and the Dark Web, outlining methods for secure contact.

A CIA spokesperson stated that the agency is adapting to increasing state repression and global surveillance, emphasizing the importance of providing a platform for individuals within authoritarian regimes to connect with the CIA.

“Our efforts on this front have been successful in Russia, and we want to make sure individuals in other authoritarian regimes know that we’re open for business,” the spokesperson said.

The recruitment drive follows heightened US concerns over China’s growing cooperation with Russia and Iran, and their increasing military presence in the region.

The CIA is specifically seeking information on China’s military and technological advancements, Iran’s nuclear program and its growing ties with Russia, and North Korea’s nuclear weapons program and alleged arms supplies to Russia.

The Chinese embassy accused the US of waging a disinformation campaign against China, asserting that attempts to weaken the bond between the Chinese people and the Communist Party will fail.

The CIA’s recruitment strategy involves encouraging individuals to contact the agency through its official website, using encrypted VPNs or the TOR network.

The agency emphasizes the importance of safeguarding informant identities, advising them to provide contact details unrelated to their real identities.

The CIA’s focus on recruiting informants in these countries reflects the increasing importance of intelligence gathering in a world where state repression and technological advancements pose significant challenges to traditional methods.
